Cream — A Living Wearable

Cream is a prototype for a living bacterial cream designed to layer on the skin. We envision a cream that reacts to external stimuli and internal user states. The first step we took is optogenetically modifying E. Coli bacteria to express color under changes in lighting level. Next, we tested multiple mediums to host the bacteria. Cream is our attempt at engineering wearables for a future where biological engineering outgrows the digital computing paradigm. Read more about Cream and other synthetic biology projects at my How to Grow Almost Anything class website.
